    the maria sibylla merian center conviviality-inequality in latin america (mecila) is an international centre for advanced studies in the humanities and social sciences financed by the german federal ministry of education and research in cooperation with the university of são paulo and the brazilian centre of analysis and planning (cebrap).  

    mecila aims to develop cutting edge research through horizontal interdisciplinary cooperation between researchers from germany, latin america, the caribbean and other regions of the world. we designed the centre’s logo and visual identity, which, in addition to a strong typography, includes the ‘colon’ as a symbol that suggests a speech, an explanation.
