between construction and appropriation

curated by joão bandeira, the exhibition brought together 60 works by the artists antonio dias, geraldo de barros and rubens gerchman made between 1960 and 1967. these artworks mix the developments of the constructive poetics of the previous decade with the appropriation of mass culture iconography that invaded daily life in the cities, adding to the politica turmoil of that period in brazil. 

taking advantage of the show’s extensive name, the visual identity is based on a condensed and flashy typography, typical of the headlines of newspapers and magazines. surrounding the exhibition space, an illustrated timeline presents, year by year, the historical and graphic context that fed into this artistic production.
