césar aira collection

for the collection’s design, we borrowed aira’s concept of procedure, which guides his writing. here, we established that each book cover should always feature an image with no additional information. we also decreed that, much like a ready-made (coincidentally, a topic of interest for the argentine writer), these images must remain untouched — presented exactly as they exist in the world. the dust jacket, on the other hand, is created through a process of chromatic synthesis based on the cover image, with the result only becoming apparent after the image is chosen. in this way, the dust jacket merely hints at what we’ll see on the cover, while simultaneously defining a color universe for each book.

this leads to a sort of chain reaction: the slipcase carries the colors of all the dust jackets, which in turn hint at the colors of the images on each cover. this is the procedure — resulting in the graphic design of the collection.
