the collection, the result of extensive editorial research, meticulously restores the editions that the author himself worked on — editions that have lost consistency over time.
the design process also begins with these historical editions in mind. the covers reclaim details from the original title pages, which are fully displayed in negative at the beginning of each book. “machado serifada”, a typeface designed by marconi lima for the collection’s graphic project, is inspired by these same 19th-century editions.
the collection’s multicolored palette indexes the various literary genres machado de assis explored. as a sort of infographic, the spines visually inform us of the author’s literary journey over time.
